We all dream of being that fairy princess or ballerina when we’re little girls, and who says that we can’t be. It’s always so magical to go to a play or a ballet or any such thing. In some odd way it seems so high class. Something that people do who have too much money and too much time. It just seems so nice to be able to get all dressed up and do something different, something that is out of the norm. It is always nice to do something that is different, tends to make you feel special.
This year the Chico Performances Presents had the Tchaikovsky Ballet and Orchestra perform Romeo and Juliet on April 1, 2008. They performed at Laxson auditorium. We all have heard about the Shakespearian play Romeo and Juliet and the ballet was nothing different. It was the same original story but obviously a ballet. It definitely was a new experience for me. I had never been to a ballet and was exciting to go to one.
However I don’t think it would have been so interesting if I hadn’t already known the story of Romeo and Juliet. Don’t get me wrong it was definitely exciting to be there and it was beautiful but if I didn’t know the story I would have been completely lost as to what was going on. Even so it was beautiful and exciting to experience something new and different. One thing I really did enjoy also was the orchestra that accompanied the ballet.
The composer of the orchestra was Sergei Prokofiev. It was very lovely to hear what he could do. Sergei was born in the Ukraine. Some of Sergei’s works include, Peter and the Wolf, Romeo and Juliet, and Cinderella. He is a great composer and I encourage anyone that has the opportunity to listen to him to do so.
I am glad that I had the opportunity to go and see this ballet. If I hadn’t taken this class I’m not sure that I would have. It has definitely opened my eyes to what the arts can provide to people. Definitely it provides entertainment but also helps one to see that there are more than just sports and your everyday activities. After seeing the play it has made me want to go to an orchestra. Listening to the music was amazing and I would like to do that. So I think that the next thing on my list to do is go and see an orchestra.
