a rose is a rose by any other name

Each one of us is given a name at birth. We really have no say in the matter. It really up to our parents to make the decision. I suppose it really isn't a big deal unless you grow up to absolutely hate your name. But does the name we are given really define who we are.  If we would have been given a different name would we have a different personality, be a different person.  Some people really believe that with a different name they can be a different person. I know that some people go out on a friday night and choose to have a different name for the night. They think that it will help them act differently and let it be a sort of mask.

In the novel Jasmine the main character Jasmine goes by different names through out the novel.  She goes by Jasmine, Jyoti, Wife, Jane, Kali, Jase, and Jazzy. Which is quite a bit of names to go by.  Throughout the book as she goes by each name she does tend to act differently. It is strange to that she “had a husband for each of the women [she has] been” (197).  It is weird that someone can act differently for each name they have. But it does make sense. I mean all names are different and it would seem natural to act differently with each different name. I do agree that someone would act different depending on the name they use. But I think that you are who you are. I don’t think that a name defines a person. In the novel Jasmine not only has different names she seems to have a different life for each name.

i think that name doesn't define who you are. But i also think that it is easy and fun to play the role of a certain name. It tends to make life a little more exciting when you can pretend to be someone else.
